Spotlight on First Year Experience: Events to Enhance Student Success

Meet April Anderson, Graduate Assistant for FYE. April is currently in her second-year as a Communication Sciences and Disorders masters student. She is from Vinton, LA and also attended LSU as an undergraduate.  Geaux Tigers!

First Year Experience hosts many events for students throughout the semester that are both academically and socially enriching. Most recently, FYE took 124 students downtown to Baton Rouge’s famed 13th Gate Haunted House. The students all received a free entrance ticket and a bus ride for a safe night of screams and fright. This event was a great way for the students to get into the Halloween spirit and meet other LSU students who were ready for a night of scary fun!

FYE’s upcoming events include the Food for Thought lunch on November 1 at 12pm with Mrs. Arronza Azard from Career Services. Students can come join FYE for a free lunch in the Magnolia Room and discuss what they can do now to plan and achieve their dream career. Also, as part of our Bengals Beyond the Bayou program, on Wednesday, November 7 at 6:00pm, students can take a trip to the Myrtles Plantation. Here, students will be able to see how people lived way back when in Louisiana, but they will have to be on the lookout for ghosts – rumor has it – it’s haunted! This event is open to all first year out-of-state students, but space is limited to the first 30 students.
